How It Started
Active SOS was born from a real crisis. One of our founders was caught in an active shooter situation with no easy way to communicate their location or status to the people who cared about them. In one of the most terrifying moments imaginable, the tools to say "I'm safe" or "send help" simply didn't exist in the right form.
That gap — between crisis and communication — became our mission. We built Active SOS first as a parent-child safety tool, because that's where we saw the most immediate need. But as we rolled it out, something unexpected happened.
Realtors told us they needed it for showing houses alone. Relief workers told us they needed it during weather emergencies. Healthcare providers told us they needed it for patients between visits. Veterans told us they needed it for days when the weight of everything was too heavy.
What started as one problem became a platform. What started as one audience became many. What started in Oklahoma City is now trusted by people across the country — and we're just getting started.

David Zink founded Active SOS out of a firsthand understanding of what it feels like to be in a dangerous situation without the right tools to communicate. Based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, David built Active SOS with a singular focus: make safety simple, private, and accessible for everyone.
Under David's leadership, Active SOS has expanded from a consumer safety app into a full HIPAA-compliant Remote Patient Monitoring platform, partnered with KonnectMD to serve healthcare members and travelers, and earned media recognition including an endorsement from KWTV News 9 Chief Meteorologist David Payne.

Our Journey
Founded in Oklahoma City, OK by Calm Water Trading, LLC. The first version focused on giving parents and children a simple way to send location alerts without constant tracking.
Real-world use cases emerged organically. Realtors needed it for unsafe showings. Schools needed it for lockdown communication. Relief workers needed it for severe weather response. The platform expanded to serve all of them.

In 2025–2026, Active SOS expanded into Remote Patient Monitoring — building a clinical dashboard, automated SMS check-in system, and compliance infrastructure including BAA agreements and A2P 10DLC SMS registration.
Active SOS partnered with KonnectMD to bundle safety alerts with 24/7 virtual healthcare and the Insider Travel Club — creating the first complete healthcare + travel + safety membership in the market.
