About eMNS Text Alerts
eMNS (Emergency Mass Notification System) is a service of Calm Water Trading, LLC dba Active SOS. Participating organizations use eMNS to send emergency alerts, scheduled drill and test notices, and safety check-in requests to their own personnel who have agreed to receive them. Every message identifies the sender as Active SOS eMNS and names the organization it comes from.
This is an operational safety service, not a marketing program. No promotional, advertising, fundraising, or third-party messages are sent through eMNS.
eMNS text alerts do not replace 911. If you are in immediate danger, call 911. Text delivery depends on wireless carriers and is not guaranteed.
How Consent Is Collected
An organization's administrator adds names and mobile numbers to the organization's alert roster so that people can be invited to enroll. Being added to a roster does not, by itself, permit text messages. Alerts are sent only to people whose own agreement has been recorded. A person agrees in one of these ways:
- Online enrollment form. The person checks an unchecked box next to the SMS consent statement shown below on their organization's enrollment form.
- Signed paper enrollment form. The person signs a form that contains the same consent statement. The organization keeps the signed form as proof of consent.
- Texting START to the organization's eMNS number after receiving notice of the program from their organization. The reply to START states the program name, message frequency, rates, and STOP and HELP instructions, and includes links to the SMS Terms and Privacy Policy, so the person sees the same disclosures as on the enrollment form.
Agreeing to receive text alerts is voluntary. The consent box is never pre-checked. You can withdraw consent at any time by replying STOP. Consent to receive text messages is not a condition of any purchase.
Each opt-in and opt-out is recorded with the date, time, and method. After a person agrees, eMNS sends a single confirmation text (see the sample messages below).
What the person sees after submitting. The page changes to “You are enrolled” and says a confirmation text was just sent, and that they can reply STOP at any time to opt out and HELP for help. The confirmation text (shown in the sample messages below) arrives within moments and includes links to the SMS Terms and Privacy Policy.

The Consent Statement People Agree To
This is the statement shown on every eMNS enrollment form, online or on paper:
Example form. The box is unchecked by default and must be checked by the person themselves.
Keywords and Automatic Replies
| Keyword | Action | Reply sent |
|---|---|---|
| START | Subscribes (or re-subscribes) the number to eMNS alerts from its organization | “Active SOS eMNS: You are enrolled to receive alerts from [Organization Name]. Message frequency varies. Msg&Data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to opt out. Terms: https://www.activesos.com/emns-sms-terms Privacy: https://www.activesos.com/emns-privacy-policy” |
| STOP | Immediately unsubscribes the number. One confirmation is sent, then no further texts. | “Active SOS eMNS: You are unsubscribed and will get no more texts from this number. Reply START to resubscribe. For emergencies call 911.” |
| HELP | Returns support contact information | “Active SOS eMNS: For help email support@activesos.com or call (405) 590-1851. Msg&Data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out. For emergencies call 911.” |
| SAFE | Acknowledges a drill, test, or check-in so the organization knows the message was received | “Active SOS eMNS: Thanks, your response was recorded.” |
STOP, STOP ALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, and QUIT are all honored as opt-outs.
Voice Calls, Email and Active SOS App Alerts
The text-message program above is separate from these channels. Nothing in them changes how texts work.
- Voice calls. Automated voice calls that read an alert are placed only to people who have separately agreed to calls, using a second box on the enrollment form that is never pre-checked. Agreeing to calls is not required for texts, and agreeing to texts does not agree to calls. On a call, press 1 for safe, 2 for help, or 9 to stop calls.
- Email. Emails are notifications only. They tell the person to reply SAFE to the text, and each one can be opted out of.
- Desktop alerts. An employee may pair a Windows computer to see alerts and answer with a button. Pairing is the person's own choice.
- Active SOS app alerts. When a person sends an alert from the Active SOS app, it includes their location at that moment. Location is sent only when the person sends an alert, and there is no background tracking.
The Call Statement People Agree To
This is the second statement on the enrollment form. It has its own unchecked box and is recorded separately, with the exact wording shown:
Example form. This second box is unchecked by default and is optional. Checking it is never required to receive texts.
See the Privacy Policy for what is collected and how it is used.
